Natural Fibre – Pure Wool – Well-being.
We love our British Bluefaced Leicester wool at McIntosh – it’s got such a lovely long staple fibre which is soft and we believe is one of the finest hand-knitting wool available on the market.
So, why would you choose wool over other fibres?
Here is our quick list of benefits …
Natural – wool is grown on sheep that graze freely on the countryside, wool is shorn to the highest standards of animal husbandry and to maintain the health and well-being of the sheep.
Sustainable – wool is an annually renewable fibre and therefore is a resource that is naturally replenished and readily available to the textile world. Wool is not manufactured from plastic or fossil fuels.
Pure wool is biodegradable – the natural ability of pure wool to biodegrade is an asset to the world as the eco agenda grows.
Easy care – the natural protective coating on wool fibres makes wool resistant to staining and anti-static.
Warm – wool is the original fibre for warmth, it has insulating properties and can keep you and your loved ones warm and cosy in the coldest of conditions.
Cool – wool is also a fibre that stays cool – it breathes and will adapt to suit its environment or its wearer.
Comfortable – the flexible, tactile nature of wool makes it very comfortable to wear, to sit on or to feel underfoot.
Odour Resistant – wool is far more efficient than other textiles at absorbing sweat and releasing it into the air – even before bacteria has a chance to develop and produce an unpleasant body odour.
Versatile – the endless suitability of wool for many applications – from fashion to fabrics, furnishings, floors and insulation – show that wool is capable of adapting to its use.
Durable – uniquely durable, its resilience to wear ensures that wool can withstand constant use over a long period making wool a wise investment.
Long-lasting appearance – appearance retention is a key attribute of wool – hand knitted garments will look beautiful for years to come if cared for correctly.
Technical – the complex cell structure makes wool a hard working performance fibre. The key attributes of the fleece that protect the sheep continue to perform even after it has been shorn.
Naturally fire-retardant – as a result of its high water and nitrogen content, wool will naturally resist fire and does not melt, drip or emit noxious fumes.
Non allergenic – able to trap dust within it’s microscopic scales until
