About Yarndale

The Festival of Yarn and Woolly Creativity in the North.

Yarndale is a vibrant September festival in Skipton celebrating all things wool. With inspiring exhibitors, workshops, and thousands of visitors, it champions creativity, community, and the journey of yarn—from sheep to finished product—encouraging everyone to get making, sharing, and exploring the joy of handmade.

Yarndale’s Roots

Yarndale began in 2010 with a focus on sustainability and the undervalued role of British wool. Sparked by discussions at a local knit and natter group in Skipton, the idea grew into a vibrant wool show celebrating creativity and community. Held in Skipton’s auction mart—an ideal venue in a town rich with sheep farming heritage—Yarndale attracts visitors from across the UK and beyond. The event champions wool’s value, encourages mindful making, supports local producers, and raises funds for charity.

Through creativity and collaboration, Yarndale continues to promote the brilliance of wool and its deep-rooted place in the Yorkshire Dales.

Our Yarn

Yarndale is about celebrating all things woolly and wonderful and we want to share our love of yarn, and the possibilities it offers, sparking creativity in everyone.

In 2020, as the world was descending into lockdown and we didn’t know whether we’d be able to deliver a show that autumn, we knew we wanted to help ensure that people were able to continue making and hoping.

So we formed a collaboration with West Yorkshire Spinners to create our own exclusive Yarndale colourways which are dyed onto their award winning signature 4ply, taking inspiration from the colours of our Yarndale Sheep. We are very proud of our yarn which is beautifully vibrant and wonderfully stripey!
