There’s something special about knowing exactly where your materials come from. In a world where transparency and sustainability matter more than ever, we have taken a significant step forward with the launch of its new Scottish Wool certification logo. A mark designed to verify products made from 100% Scottish wool.
The launch brought together farmers, designers, manufacturers and industry experts from across Scotland’s wool supply chain. The event wasn’t just about a new logo, it was about celebrating the journey of Scottish wool from hillside to finished garment.
The new certification logo gives brands and consumers a clear way to identify products made entirely from Scottish-sourced wool. As interest grows in natural, traceable materials, it responds directly to a wider shift away from fast fashion and synthetic-heavy production towards more sustainable choices in clothing and interiors.
For consumers, it offers reassurance. For brands, it provides a trusted way to communicate provenance and authenticity. And for the wider industry, it strengthens the visibility of Scottish wool as a premium, natural fibre with a strong story to tell.
The launch event brought the story of Scottish wool to life in a very tangible way.
Visitors saw live wool grading demonstrations and explored displays mapping the fibre journey from raw fleece through to finished fabric. Scottish businesses already working with locally sourced wool showcased their products, highlighting just how versatile and contemporary the fibre can be.
The programme also included a behind-the-scenes visit to Lochcarron of Scotland, one of the country’s most established kilt manufacturers. The tour offered a closer look at how traditional craftsmanship is evolving, with Scottish wool continuing to play a central role in high-quality textiles for both domestic and international markets.
Among the guests was designer and Channel 4 Game of Wool judge Di Gilpin. Who spoke about the enduring value of Scottish wool in modern design.
“Scottish wool has always been more than just a material – it carries a real sense of place, heritage and creativity,” she said. “For designers, it offers something incredibly special: a fibre with depth, texture and character that simply can’t be replicated.
“What’s exciting is seeing that heritage continue to evolve in a modern context, from interiors to fashion and contemporary craft. This launch is a brilliant way to celebrate the creativity and skill that Scottish wool continues to inspire.”
Jim Robertson, Chairman of British Wool, highlighted the importance of the new certification in strengthening confidence across the supply chain.
“Scottish wool is a valuable natural resource with a long history and a strong future,” he said. “This certification gives confidence to consumers and brands that Scottish wool can be clearly identified and trusted for its provenance, quality and sustainability, which is only a good thing as demand for wool continues to grow.”
As consumers become increasingly conscious of what they buy, certification schemes like this play a vital role in bridging the gap between production and purchase. The Scottish Wool logo not only recognises origin. It reinforces the value of natural fibres, local supply chains and skilled craftsmanship.
For Scottish wool, this is more than a label. It’s a signal of confidence, quality and connection. From the landscape where it begins, to the products we live with every day.
