Cable & Blake fabrics are unique in the upholstery marketplace as we dye the Herdwick fabric with vibrant colours that reflect the Lake District heritage, but also because we print our abstract designs onto it.
The real beauty of the fabrics is that they still retain the original character and varied tones of the Herdwick fleece and yarns, as well as the extreme durability of the wool, making them great to use for upholstery.
Our fabric collection features a colour palette inspired by the rich, seasonal tones of the Lake District landscapes.
The greys within the colourways reflect the limestone crags as well as the Herdwick sheep themselves. The oranges and pinks represent the fells in Autumn, while the vivid greens depict an image of the mountains of our Summer.
Rachel and her co-founder, Alice, who sadly passed away 4 years ago, both had a passion to do something with Herdwick fleece. They came up with the idea of creating a 100% British wool upholstery fabric and Cable & Blake was born, all whilst on a walk with their sons along the shores of Windermere in 2016.
Other than our main goal of being as sustainable as possible, another reason for us choosing to use 100% British wool is simply that Herdwicks are native to the Lake District. We pride ourselves on being 100% British and we feel that this makes our fabric a more luxurious product, therefore adding more value to the fabric and creating a preferred use of the fleece for the farmers.
