Founded by Yolanda Leask and Martin Brambley during their respective studies in textile and fashion design. After graduation, the founders wanted to address mass market fashion’s impact on the climate and work to make sustainable fashion affordable for ordinary people.
Doppelhaus Ltd created Cloudwool® bringing a design approach to textile engineering. The founders have great technical knowledge and thanks to their design training, also a great sense of the aesthetic needs of fashion and interiors markets.
Doppelhaus use only sustainable fibres and process them using low-energy, green and innovative nonwoven textile engineering to make higher value, design-led textiles than are very different in look and feel to typical nonwovens. This means they can manufacture their Cloudwool® materials cost-effectively locally in the UK or also in Germany in a parallel EU supply chain.
Cloudwool® is a range of innovative, nonwoven fabrics for fashion made from pure British wool. The aim of Cloudwool® is to make a pure wool fabric once again accessible for mass market fashion.
Cloudwool® is a lightweight felt fabric with greater flexibility and breathability than conventional felts. With a new, transparent and local approach to textile manufacturing, Cloudwool® turns sustainable, natural British wool fibre into a warm outerwear fabric in one efficient process.
“We are proud to help support British sheep farmers and promote this beautiful, ethical, natural material that is produced on our doorstep. It is our aim to make local textiles that reflect what can be made today in the UK, using nonwoven technology and high quality British wool.”
Cloudwool® aims to be ‘the people’s wool’ and bring pure wool back to the UK high street. It aims to be the first mass market fashion fabric to be manufactured in the UK this century. After much offshoring of textile manufacturing, and nonwoven technology provides the scale and cost-efficiency required for onshore production.
