Herdwick Limited crafts woven cloth – including worsted Herdwick Tweed – alongside Herdwick weaving yarn, raw wool and tops, all sourced from Lake District Herdwick sheep born and shorn in the Grasmere area. Every stage of production takes place in the UK, working with scourers, spinners, dyers and weavers in Yorkshire. Materials are available in their natural state or made into finished products carrying the Herdwick Limited label – a mark of 100% British wool, fully made in Britain and genuinely sustainable.

Herdwick Tweed was created to give real value back to the Lake District farming community. At a time when the cost of shearing a Herdwick sheep exceeded the value of its fleece, this initiative ensured those fleeces could be transformed into a premium, purposeful product with clear provenance.

Naturally water resistant and exceptionally durable, Herdwick fabric performs strongly under commercial abrasion (“rub”) testing. Like the hardy sheep it comes from, it is built to endure. Products made from Herdwick Tweed are designed to last, developing character over time. This inherent strength makes it ideal for upholstery and high-use items such as caps and bags.

Drawing on traditional design principles, Herdwick Limited creates patterns using both undyed yarn and yarn dyed to reflect the distinctive tones of the Lake District landscape. The resulting natural palette is versatile and timeless, suited to wardrobes and interiors alike. From caps and bags to cushions, lampshades, upholstered chairs and curtains. It is fabric made to be lived with and truly taken home.
