Palava started as a childrenswear brand over 15 years ago, up in Yorkshire. Ever since learning adults wanted to wear our unique prints too, we’ve been making more and more womenswear. It is now the biggest part of our business and drives our collections every season.

We’re an independently owned clothing brand that is full of character. We make colourful and quirky clothing that is designed to be lived in and loved for years to come. We are passionate about sustainable clothing and we pride ourselves on keeping things small and transparent. We know every step of the process and everyone who works hard to make our dresses a reality.

WHY BRITISH WOOL?

It is very important for us, as an ethically- and sustainably-minded company, to support local business and especially local raw materials. There are many advantages to producing locally. It means you are closer to the whole process. We can visit our suppliers regularly, make sure it’s a pleasant work environment and the workers are happy as well as help them with any issues that might arise. It also means the overall footprint of the final garment is lower than if it had been made abroad.

It was important to us to find a wool that was actually produced in the UK and not shipped in like so many other wools that suggest they are from the UK but actually flown in from New Zealand and other far away places.. Wool is the only viable fiber we can actually produce here in the UK, so when looking to reduce our carbon footprint, British wool seemed something we just had to use.

We want to help promote British wool and having met many of the farmers who care so much for their sheep we feel deeply about supporting them and helping them find ways to use their wool. We have searched to produce a wool that proves to consumers that British wool does not have to be scratchy or itchy, on the contrary our knits are soft to touch and are at the same time durable.

We strive for quality and longevity, and each of our heritage knitwear pieces are made to stand the test of time, and yes, we could talk forever about the amazing properties of wool itself !
