Fully traceable Yorkshire yarn from rare breed sheep

Edward & Laura Sutcliffe, have been running their hilltop farm above Heptonstall in West Yorkshire for over 10 years but they had a problem.

Every year they had to shear their flock including rare breed Lonk and Whitefaced Woodland sheep and they wanted to do something unique with just over 100 fleeces.

They wanted to test a hyper-local wool transformation chain, to encourage the use of more local wool with full traceable provenance and allow them to sustain themselves full time on the farm.

Working with British Wool allowed us to keep full traceable provenance of our raw fleeces whilst making sure that through utilising their skilled graders, we were only taking the top quality fleeces through to yarn production and the rest would be sold on through the British wool auction for use in other end applications.

Raw fleece to finished yarn in under 30 miles.
