Clapdale Wool DK Traceable Yarn

Discover Clapdale Wool DK Traceable Yarn, a 100g hank of DK weight wool for hand knitting. It’s available in six natural colours. This yarn is made exclusively by Glencroft in the Yorkshire Dales.

The wool comes from just seven local farms. Each farm is within 10 miles of Glencroft’s warehouse in Clapham. The aim of the Clapdale Wool project is simple—support local farmers and offer fully traceable British wool.

Each farmer is paid a premium for their wool. In addition, 10% of profits go back to the farms. The yarn includes fleeces from Dalesbred, Bluefaced Leicester (BFL), North of England Mule, and Texel sheep. These breeds are all found on farms in the area.

The wool is worsted spun to create a soft but rustic DK yarn. It’s ideal for hats, scarves, and other hand-knit projects. Consequently, you may notice some natural texture, or ‘nep’, in the yarn. These come from shorter coloured fibres and add depth to your work.

The wool is collected and sorted by British Wool. It is certified as “British Wool Traceable”. Glencroft has scoured, carded, combed, and spun the wool entirely in West Yorkshire.

Therefore the total journey from farm to finished yarn is just 90 miles. As a result making it a low-impact, sustainable choice. Each hank includes a link to three free knitting patterns by local expert Sandra Oakeshott. You can make a bias scarf, a child’s hat and scarf, and fingerless mittens.
