A groundbreaking company that has recently introduced the world’s first circular tennis ball made from 100% felted wool, using blended British wool
With their revolutionary creation, Renewaball has set a new standard for the sports industry and opened the door to a more sustainable future for tennis enthusiasts worldwide. We are extremely proud to be supplying Europe’s largest sustainable tennis and padel ball makers.
Already making a name for themselves across Europe. Renewaball is planning its UK launch, meaning fans of the sport could soon have their hands on the iconic green ball.
After launching in 2021, Renewaball collects old tennis and padel balls from clubs and gives them a second life by recycling them. The rubber is reused, and the polyester and nylon are taken off and 100% organic felt is put back on, made from sheep wool from around Britian.

Traditionally, tennis balls have been crafted using a combination of rubber and synthetic fibres. Resulting in a product that is difficult to recycle and poses a significant environmental impact.
Renewaball’s visionary approach has changed the game by replacing the synthetic felting with a blend of British wool. This innovative choice not only eliminates the need for harmful synthetic compounds but also offers a circular solution by utilising a renewable and biodegradable resource.
Renewaball has collaborated with us to create the world’s first circular tennis and padel balls, made from recycling the rubber from old and used tennis balls.
Graham Clark, Marketing Director at British Wool, said:
“We’re thrilled to see British wool used across sporting goods including tennis balls. Renewaball’s ethos really marries with our own – they’re a forward-thinking company which values the durability and sustainability of wool, and we’re extremely proud they are championing British farming.”
Hélène Hoogeboom, CEO at Renewaball, commented:
“We are constantly looking for ways to lower our carbon-footprint and wanted to create tennis and padel balls for the masses which does just that.
Renewaball is a type 2 tennis ball and ITF approved, which can be used on all courts, made with British wool. It plays just like ‘regular’ balls and isn’t any more expensive. But is the only tennis ball with a low carbon footprint. We’re really excited to be partnering with British Wool and officially launching in the UK soon.”
Wool, a natural fibre that has been used for centuries, possesses an array of environmental advantages. As a renewable resource, wool is sourced from sheep, which can be shorn annually without causing harm to the animals. Moreover, it is a biodegradable material that decomposes naturally, leaving no lasting environmental footprint.
Wool’s inherent properties also make it an ideal choice for tennis balls. The fibres offer excellent durability, ensuring a longer lifespan for the ball compared to its synthetic counterparts. Wool’s resilience allows it to maintain its bounce and playability, making it an attractive option for tennis players of all levels.
Renewaball’s decision to use a felted British wool blend goes beyond sustainability; it also supports local communities and British farmers. By sourcing the wool locally, Renewaball contributes to the growth and sustainability of the British wool industry, creating a positive economic impact.
This approach not only reduces the carbon footprint associated with long-distance transportation. But also helps preserve traditional farming practices that have shaped the British countryside for generations.
The launch of Renewaball’s circular tennis ball marks a significant milestone in the sports industry’s sustainability journey.
By introducing a game-changing product that prioritises environmental consciousness without compromising on performance. Renewaball sets an inspiring example for other sports equipment manufacturers. This breakthrough encourages players, professionals, and tennis enthusiasts to make more sustainable choices, triggering a ripple effect throughout the industry.
