Tell us about TrueWool®?

Our flagship product, Truewool® Thermal Loft Insulation Rolls, is crafted exclusively from 100% pure Welsh wool. With over 10,000 years of evolution, sheep’s wool emerges as a natural marvel, adept at insulating in even the harshest Welsh conditions. It’s a testament to nature’s ingenuity that sheep remain warm and dry amidst our region’s abundant rainfall, thanks to their fleece.

Wool stands out as an exceptional insulation material, boasting hygroscopic properties that effectively manage dampness and humidity. Remarkably, it can absorb up to 30% of its weight in water without compromising its insulating capabilities.

Truewool® rolls, available in widths of 400mm or 600mm, offer more than just insulation; they embody a commitment to sustainability and social responsibility. Many of our clients specify traceable Welsh wool from specific counties, aligning with principles of the circular economy.

While currently rooted in Wales, our ambition extends to sourcing traceable wool from across the UK, including Northern Ireland, Scotland, and England.

Why is using Welsh wool a key aspect in TrueWool® insulation?

Through British Wool’s Traceability Scheme, we ensure transparency and fairness in sourcing wool. Providing an additional premium to farmers who contribute to our high-quality standards. This initiative has garnered appreciation from Welsh wool producers, offering them a well-deserved boost in returns for their natural harvest.

The surge in demand for local, low-carbon, renewable construction materials mirrors the UK’s journey towards net zero emissions. Truewool® stands at the forefront of this movement, endorsed by a recent case study listed on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals website. Its unique approach to supporting the circular economy resonates with the ethos of sustainability and environmental stewardship.

Truewool® utilises a coarse wool grade from the iconic Welsh Mountain breed, known for regenerative grazing practices that preserve our diverse habitats. This wool’s enhanced crimp traps more air, boasting a high specific heat capacity that optimises thermal performance year-round.

What are the benefits of using TrueWool®?

In addition to its environmental benefits, Truewool® offers practical advantages. Unlike synthetic insulation, it poses no harm to health, eliminating the need for extensive personal protective equipment during installation. Customers praise its ease of handling and installation, noting its seamless integration into their projects.

Our dedication to innovation and sustainability hasn’t gone unnoticed. In 2023, Wool Insulation Wales Ltd was honored as the ‘Welsh Start-Up of the Year’ in the ‘Building & Construction’ category at the National Start-Up Business Awards. This recognition underscores our commitment to decarbonising the built environment through groundbreaking research and development initiatives.
