A Month of Milestones

October 2024 has been one for the books. Our Wool Month was filled with events, collaborations with retailers, brands, and craft enthusiasts, all celebrating the value of wool in modern life. Highlights include:

  • Yarndale, where we demonstrated the wool grading process and explored wool’s role in craftsmanship and sustainable fashion.
  • Decorex, showcasing the versatility of wool for our homes and interiors.
  • The launch of our Welsh wool logo, marking a new chapter in promoting the new Welsh yarn. Using 100% Welsh wool for many traditional Welsh mills to return to their roots and use the Welsh wool instead of imported wool.
  • Aubin’s launch of their AW24 collection including an increasing number of British wool pieces.
  • Navygrey pop-up shop in Notting Hill.
  • Fashion Textile Museum’s Panel Discussion hosted by Davina Catt. Joined by Rachel Carvell Spedding (Navygrey Founder), Sarak Clark (Founder and Editor of Douceur), Jake Grantham (Anglo-Italian Company Founder) and Haldi, our Product Development Manager at British Wool.

Highlighting how supporting British wool helps our farmers, rural economies, British manufacturing, and the environment.

Lessons from October: The Future of Wool

Wool Month 2024 has confirmed what we have always known: wool is a future-forward fibre. More than just a staple of tradition, wool is emerging as the answer to the challenges faced by industries seeking eco-friendly, renewable, and long-lasting materials.

A key theme of this year has been checking the label. There is a real movement towards educating consumers about the benefits of choosing wool over synthetic alternatives, whether in home insulation, clothing, or everyday products like blankets and throws. Wool’s natural properties – being biodegradable, durable, and breathable – make it a perfect fit for the eco-conscious consumer.

Another takeaway from this October is the growing importance of collaboration and innovation. From our discussions with brands and designers to the feedback from retailers and farmers, there’s a shared understanding that the future of wool lies in collectiveness. Showing ways to…

What’s Next?

As we move into the end of the year, we’re already looking ahead to the future. Wool Month may be over, but our commitment to promoting British wool is stronger than ever. Here’s a glimpse of what’s on the horizon:

  • During November we will be focusing on gifting. With a campaign that highlights wool products as thoughtful, sustainable gifts that support local businesses and sheep farmers.
  • Continued partnerships with designers and brands to drive innovation and explore new uses for wool.
  • Expanding our educational resources on the benefits of wool to allow greater audiences to experience and learn about wool.

Wool Month has shown us that wool is more than just a heritage material – it’s the fabric of the future.

We’re excited to continue building on the momentum of this October. Bringing you more opportunities to engage with wool in ways that support our farmers, protect the environment, and add lasting value to your life.

Thank you for joining us this Wool Month. Stay tuned for more exciting developments and keep an eye out for ways to continue supporting British wool throughout the year!
